Hi there... I noticed some folks on PBS have Shelfari.  I've looked at the website links to their shelf. its such a cool site.  My question is:  if someone has a book on their "plan to read" shelf does it mean they have it in their TBR pile or they are looking for it??

Does anyone else use it??

ETA:  Can you "upload" a PBS "reminder list or wish list" on Shelf ari??   I don't think I would like adding all the books I've read or owned as well as all the books I want.

Plan to read is essentially a TBR pile, ones they're looking for go on "wishlist". I'm on it, though I haven't updated it recently. I really doing think you can do an import of the lists here to there, though I'm sure if you surfed around and/or read the FAQ they'd have answers (I'm pretty sure there's a Shelfari community where the people that run the site answer user questions.)

I've been a member of Shelfari for several months and really like it.   I keep my Books Read list on Shelfari and my TBR list here on PBS (because we have a better search feature here and I have over 1,000 books on my TBR).   It's cool, though, to be able to see your books on a virtual "shelf".

I believe that you CAN download your lists from PBS to Shelfari.  I've never done it myself, but many of the PBS members who have recently joined Shelfari have done it.

If/when you join Shelfari, you should search for and join the Paperback Swap group.  They'll be able to give you tips on downloading your lists from PBS to Shelfari.

Hi Lisa,

I'm there. My link is in my siggie. I'm not sure on the download. I just copied and pasted the isbn numbers from PBS to Shelfari or looked up by author and added multiple ones that way. It was a long process but fun.

My Plan to Read is my tbr pile, same as here and my wishlist is the same as here too. I try to keep both up to date. It's a fun place and I love the tag system on people's shelves. It was quite easy adding tags to my books there since I read a lot of different genres.

I downloaded my PBS Books I've Read list as a CSV list, then - with some trial and error - uploaded it to Shelfari. If I recall correctly, I had to open the downloaded list in Excel, move the ISBNs to the first columns, save as text, then upload to get it to work. But maybe I took too many steps. As a trial, you could try to format just 2 or 3 titles into a text file then upload to see if they work. All that uploaded was ISBN, Title, Author - no ratings or dates added or anything like that.

Once you have created your Shelfari profile, click on the Add Books to My shelf link, then on the next page use the Import link. After I added my books, I used the Bulk Edit feature to add my ratings, favorites, and tags.

The easy thing about keeping your list here on PBS is just moving it from Received to TBR to BIR with a click of a button. Now I have to manually add my books on Shelfari. But what I like about Shelfari is being able to see other peoples lists - so if you have books in common, you might get some ideas for books you might want to read from their shelves.

The "group" function, with "discussions" isn't very user-friendly, IMO, but you can join lots of groups, and there are several for Romance. Well, I don't find this forum software as user-friendly either, but I keep reading here anyway!! (I have a hard time following discussions here since it doesn't show me what posts have been updated or let me jump to the newest posts since I last read.)

As far as "Plan to Read" shelves - it's entirely up to you how to use that. It's not a swap site, so people aren't posting books to find them from other members. I use Plan To Read as my TBR list - as in, I have it, and plan to read it.

I just started listing my books there 2 nights ago, so my trading buddies here can see what I have. I was always shuffling through my stacks here to find out if I'd used something in a swap before I promised it to someone. Now I just need to keep my shelf current! Also it's good to keep track of my keepers.

I joined Shelfari a week or so ago and I really love it! My "Plan to Read" is my TBR (I currently have it), my wishlist is not necessaraly the same as PBS, since I add my reminder list book to that as well. I've also been able to integrate it into my MySpace with the Shelfari App over there.

I did it all the hard way...ISBN#s 1 at a time, then for Books I've read, I searched authors and added att the books that way, since I had a paper list...but I don't need the paper lists any more...and I didn't even realize, until I joined Shelfari how many books I've actually read over the course of time... 832 books currently.

Lisa, I found that once I got it all set up, keeping it updated has been pretty simple. It only takes a couple of mintues:)

I just joined a few days ago and have been adding books by searching authors. I tend to read multiple books by the same author so it's been fairly easy to build my shelf!
