I have heard and read the story of Jesus' birth many times, but this book made me look at the story in a new light. I hadn't considered the story from the shepherds' point of view, and certainly not from the point of view of those who lived in Bethlehem during the Slaughter of the Innocents. I'm not sure I buy the link between Anam and Stephen, the first Christian martyr, either. Though I didn't enjoy this book as much as other Biblical fiction (such as The Wives of King David series by Jill Eileen Smith, or the Acts of Faith series by Davis Bunn & Janette Oke) the story did make me reconsider my views of the first Christmas.

A nice easy read about a shepherd and how his life was impacted by the birth of Jesus. A touching story perfect for Christmas time, or anytime. Well written, and could be read aloud as a special story to share with your family at Christmas time.
