The way John Keane got into the job of finding missing pets is shared, and the stories behind his successes and adventures is well worth the reading. Delightful and endearing, a book worth this lovely title! Recommend to animal lovers. Note: all searches are NOT successful.

He advises NOT to leave any stone unturned - that animal shelters cannot be responsible to find your pet. You MUST go and look - to prevent tragic mistakes in IDing your beloved missing pet. Very helpful advice, I thought.
