A moving and unforgetable talke about greed, it's consequences, and the redeeming power of sacrifice. This book was a Barnes & Nobles Discover Selection. It has become one of my favorite books, I highly recommend it!

The "book description" sums up the basics well enough. This is an enjoyable and quietly compelling read. A tragedy. Author does a fine job transporting reader back into the subsistence mindset of this very small Japanese village. Short straightforward read.

A tale of a boy living in a village and the cycles of the seasons and waiting for O-fune-sama in the winter months.
The pain of living on the edge of starvation and the wanting for something bad to happen so you can live better is a hard edge to live on.
Beautifully written.
When you get what you want and it doesn't turn out well. Learning the lesson is extremely hard to live with sometimes.
