A fabulous read for both animal and/or human training, as well as an alternative to the normal way to react to behaviours that one does not desire.

While this book doesn't specifically focus on training dogs, it's the best dog training book I've ever read. I always give a copy of it to my friends who are getting puppies. (It's also a great book for training husbands!)

Everyone needs to pick up a copy of this book & read it. Not only will you learn how to get what you want in just about every situation, you will be a happier, saner person. Don't let the title fool you, this is not strictly a book about dog training. This is also about human training & how we can change our methods & interactions to prevent frustration in both ourselves and those around us, be they human or animal. Karen Pryor has successfully trained everything from hermit crabs to elephants, puppies to children. Now, you can too.

Don't Shoot the Dog! is a book about training and raising children, mostly those of human variety. Some mention of dog and dolphin training is also included, yet the majority is about human children. I first read it when my children were little, and now they are using the skills taught, in raising their children as well as at their jobs. The lessons in the ook are worthwhile learning, for life.
