David Goodis' novel is a classic hardboiled tale about a pianaist whose dark past has finally caught up with him. This is an exciting bleak noir book. The quick read takes place during a cold mid-western winter. Surprisingly, the French movie of the same name follows the story pretty closely. I, however, find the novel one of Goodis' best.
