This book is a panarama of literary life at a time when the American arts were undergoing a great revival. The pieces run parallel, more or less, to the firsthand reportage collected in the American Earthquake. Among the figures presented are Sherwood Anderson, Eugene O'Neill, Ring Lardner, E.E. Commings, H. L. Mencken, Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Elinor Wylie, and Edna St. Vincent Millay. There are also personal impressions, sketches of life in the 20's , letters, satires, pieces on the classics, and a lively picture of the little theaters that flourished below Washington Square.
