I mailed a book with PBS DC that shows delivered 2 weeks ago. I have my credit, of course, but I PM'd the receiver last Friday to let me know if they hadn't received it, so that I could open an inquiry with the post office. I haven't heard back from her yet. I know that she may  have other things going on, but the sooner the better with the post office.

What would you do?

UPDATE: The requestor finally marked the book received today. Not sure exactly what happened, but I'm glad she got it.

Just what you've done...not much else you CAN do! It's good that you waited at least a week after the delivery scan to contact--that can sometimes be premature, but usually not by 2 weeks. If their account has become inactive, when the book gets declared 'lost' in the system, it actually gets marked received by the system. If her account is still active but not marked received, well...it's entirely possible she didn't actually get the book--misdelivery or something, I've had it happen myself--but it would be nice if she would at least respond to your PM. However, as you say, you have your credit and there isn't much else you can do to try to follow up.

Maybe her PO scanned it as delivered, and delivered it to the right place, but she's either

1) Not online due to some sort of emergency

2) Having someone else pick-up or hold her mail for her

Last year, when I was on vacation, I put my account here on hold and my Wish List on Auto Request and gave my neighbor a letter allowing her to pick up packages at the PO for me.  Several PBS Wish List books arrived, and my neighbor e-mailed me so I could mark them received, but I couldn't access my e-mail from abroad, and the stupid company only had a tech support number available if you were calling from within the US.

It could have been delivered to the wrong house.  I've had that happen.

After a week and a non response, the guidelines recommend contacting PBS admin.

If you sent the book with Delivery Confirmation and it has been recorded as delivered by USPS but hasn't been marked received yet:

  • Remember that the book could have been scanned as "delivered" at the local PO, before it went to the requestor's mailbox--the actual delivery can be a few days later  Also, the book could have been misdelivered.
  • You should FIRST contact the requestor using the button on the transaction on the Books I've Mailed tab in My Account when a few days have passed after delivery.
  • If the requestor does not respond to your PM within a week, and has not marked the book received by a week after the delivery scan, contact us.  We will look into it.
  • If you used DC purchased through PBS, or PBS Printed Postage, you will already have gotten your credit for sending the book.

I just recently had a couple books sent to me scanned as delivered and they never were so it does happen, I responded to all enquiries about it though. I also tried to track it down from my side and gave PBS and the sender the incident number and all the info as I found it, my p.o. has no idea what happened to them they just know my carrier didn't scan them. They never find anything lost but you have to try anyway.

I gave away a couple books in the damaged thread using the 'mail to a friend' option and PBS postage and DC which puts a transaction record on my account but not the recipients. They are supposed to tell me so I can mark them mailed when they arrive. The one person was appreciative and let me know right away they received the book, the other had been scanned delivered a bit ago and PBS even sent me an email asking if they received it yet so I pmed them and they didn't bother to answer. I marked it received since it doesn't matter anyway, no credits involved, but it's not very polite especially since it was a free book. Some people just aren't very attentive. I also have a regular request transaction still pending that was scanned delivered on the 12th that they still haven't marked or responded to pm. It is frustrating but you can't really do anything, just be glad you used PBS postage and got your credit.

Not receiving a book is different from not replying to a PM (regarding a possible problem).

If the sender merely trying to determine if the book has been received (and the proper time has elapsed), so they can request a PO search, the requester should respond.

I would check to see if her bookshelf is on hold.  That may indicate they are away, possibly.  Also check that the account has not been suspended or closed.
