A well-written account of what life must have been like for those who lived during the time of the Second World War, in the south, as seen through the eyes of poor black families. The opportunities were small, but these two women were brave, daring to rise above their circumstances to achieve a better life for themselves. Interesting and informative, this book opens the door a crack for a peek into a life and society I knew nothing about.
