I don't think the poster comes on this site anymore. I'm trying to get The Ruins by Scott Smith in paperback but apparently only one person has it posted. I've requested it 2 times from her. The first time I waited a week and i got no response. The second time I waited 5 days and STILL no response. I really want this book and I don't know what to do. I didn't bother PMing her cuz i figured if she's not checking her requests, she's probably not checking her PMs either.

:(

I just looked and it says there are 131 copies of this book posted in the system. Are you canceling the order after so many days? If you do that you will keep getting the inactive member. You need to reorder it and let the system time it out and move it along to the next person on the FIFO system.  Be patient- wait for the first person to time out so they can weed out in-active members. I loved that book and think it will be worth the wait. :)

Wow..131 copies. How long do I have to wait until the request moves on to another member? The first time I waited a week before I cancelled it.

I think after 5 days the request moves to the next member who has the book posted.

Don't cancel the request. Let it time out and go to the next person. By cancelling it before it times out you are just getting the same person over and over again.  If you let it time out then that book will be removed from their shelf, a  red flag will go on their account as possibly inactive and the request will pass on to someone else.

You could post the book you are looking for in the Book Bazaar and most likely someone will have it and you can order it right from their shelf.

You might not notice when it passes from one member to the next.  I think the only thing that changes on the "waiting for member" thing is the date.  So you might even have to wait for a couple of members who might be inactive, but one of the 131 must still be here!  : )  Good luck!  : )

Yes, the waiting can be lengthy sometimes as it waits 5 days on each person to accept, but there isn't really any way around it.  You can post a message in the book bazaar saying you are looking for it... (http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=103104).  This might find a "live" person and you can order directly from their shelf if they PM you.

You can track how many people your requests go through by checking your transaction archive.  As others have said, don't cancel, let the system do the work, but if you are curious how many people your request is going through, look at the transaction archive.

Actually, unless the sender accepts and then cancels, I don't believe you can find it in the archive.  (It's not a "transaction" until both parties agree to it.)
