An unusual book. It is the story of a family and their residence over a number of generations. It reads more like snapshots of time than a cohesive history. That said it is full of warriors, sorcerors, theives, preisthoods, and their female counterparts. Monsters haunt the halls of this house that grows each day. It reaches city size proportions and lures victims daily with rumors of wealth and power for those brave enough to attempt to pierce its darkness. Don't look for "happily ever after" endings to chapters. It is also told with some time shifting that doesn't flow well.
It is almost one endless battle from beginning to the end of the book. No heroes to speak of; just villain after villain. There is a recurring pair of theives but they're not Robin Hood types. All in all it kept me interested as new passages, chambers and halls are explored and new characters (but with the same set of motivations) introduced.
