Thirteen-year-old Alyssa has not spoken since seeing her parents die in a hurricane, and now, three years later, another storm threatens the home she shares with her grandfather on Galveston Island.
"Alyssa, 13, has been mute ever since he mother drowned and her father disappeared three years ago during a storm. ...As another hurricane approaches and danger looms, she has flashboacks....The story's thrust--like the approaching storm--is strong, and makes for absorbing reading." --Kirkus Reviews
I read this within 24 hours. There seemed to be a few holes in the storyline that I had to reread and see what I missed. During the terrible storm the adults seemed let the children be in charge too much. Very good juvenile fiction.
