I posted a book yesterday.  Not WL'd.  Today it was ordered.  Hooray!!

What I was wondering is how did someone find it?  Do you have things on your RL and check it on a daily basis to see if it's been posted?  This has happened to me a couple of times, books I thought would be on my shelf forever and a day somehow get requested within a day or two - no complaints, just wondering.

I don't have many books on my RL or my WL.  I do check out the WL more than the RL though.

Could have been from someone browsing through books recently posted.  I've done that and found a book that I didn't even know I was looking for.

I have some favorite authors that can be hard to come by here. Because of that, I usually click on the link in their name at least once a day to see if anything by that person is posted. Maybe others do the same?

Also, someone may have decided yesterday that the title in question was the one he wanted to read and just happened to find it available because you posted it.  Happy serendipity!

It was probably from someone seeing it on the newly posted books lists.  Either the big Books Posted Today list or the thumbnails that scroll across the main page.

Also someone could have had a full WL and has WL books or non-posted books on their RL.  They may check it daily and noticed that one of the non-posted books finally had a copy available.

I forgot about the recently posted books feature.  It could have been that.  Or Mary's suggestion about the full WL..  I'm always amazed that someone has 200 books on their WL.  Maybe because my WL was Amazon before PBS.  I visited there almosr daily and had a running order with them.  Does thatt give you a hint as to the size of my personal TBR pile?

Even though I'm a fast reader I can't get that pile down to acceptable limits.  Anything under 700 would be very nice.

Thanks everyone!

I keep a list of zero-copy books on my Reminder List and I check it every day. Ususally, a few pop up each month for me.

I check the Daily Digest  for books posted in my genre every day.  I find all sorts of titles and authors I didn't know I was looking for that way.  I also keep a "no books availabe " list on my RL.  It's very long.  It gets hard to decide sometimes!  I have a huge (to me) TBR.  Then I also order books that are very reasonable on Amazon when a book I think I really want has too large a WL and I figure I can afford to buy it and enter it inot the PBS system after I've read it!  Then there are my Buddies' shelves that I like to check out every so often.  There are so many ways to find books I want!

A while back I moved a bunch of books that only had me wishing for them onto my RL because my WL was full. I just check my RL every time I come on the site to see if any of them have been posted into the system and then order them immediately. I have also been hooked by a book on the newly posted books list and even from the reviews posted on the home page. Okay, so I order books from everywhere, even Amazon and B&N. Don't tell anyone, but, I think I'm a book addict.

Our WL maxed out some time ago, so I went back and culled it, moving some things to RL. Mostly, my part of the WL is for hard-to-find books that I am going to want if I have the credits when they come in and the RL is for books that I might want (need to check somewhere in the house to see if I have it already, or see if the library has a copy of anything by that author so I can read and see if I like their style, etc). I do check my RL when I have credits to spare and see if something has moved up to the top part of the first page where the Order It button shows up. The Recently Posted Books also catches me from time-to-time.

I know a librarian who goes through books donated to her branch and checks them against the WL here. If someone has WLed it, she will buy the book (the sell books dirt cheap, IMHO) and post it as available. This seems a bit off to me, both because she is effectively giving PBSers a first shot over her local library patrons -- and because she is missing out on other opportunities to post books folks may want but have not WLed.
