I am looking for a book or series of books put out in maybe the 70s. It revolved aroung a Hobbit type land, but I think there were perhaps more animals. I know this is vague, but I figured this would be the place to ask.

Hmm...I'm not going to be much help with this one as it's not one of my favorite genres. However, Watership Down by Richad Adams came to mind. (I've also read that Adams was inspired by Tolkien.)

Watership Down is a good one...

I did find the series I was looking for, The Circle of Light by Niel Hancock.

They are currently out of print.
