I would so love to meet Ms. Kingsolver. She is one of my heroes (heroines sounds too drug-related). If President Bush read this, he would think she was committed to a mental institution. The truth hurts, but at least she shares it with us.
This review is hardly unbiased as I love Kingsolver. The essays in this book read like poetry. I love to read well written works that make significant points, but do so with eloquence and beauty. Kingsolver knows how to portray beauty and truth in ways that stir the soul. You won't be disappointed.
I really loved this book. It is set up as several short essays/stories. It's a little complicated at times and it seemed to drag on during certain parts, but the way it was set up was really nice because I was able to finish the chapter and then the next story was different and a fresh viewpoint. It was the first Barbara Kingsolver book I read and it inspired me to read The Poisonwood Bible, which I also love. This book is not like her fictional novels, but is still written beautifully in Kingsolver's unique style and her stories within the book are very inspiring and touching. There are a lot of facts and stories about nature. It's not a fast read. I highly reccommend it for the person who enjoys though-provoking books and can push through a few pages that might be a little difficult to read.
Some of these essays can be read over and over. Very good stuff.
This book of essays is a wonderful environmental book of insights. It's no "Poisonwood
Bible"( Kingsolver's best work I believe), but it's an easy, and yet an insightful work to
the wonders around us. I enjoyed the book due o its variety of essays from serious to funny and I love anything by Kingsolver.
Kingsolver has done a magnificent job with this book of essays. She takes a good look at many aspects of life and offers some interesting ideas and things to think about.
excellent collection of essays about the natural world, family.
