I just had "After Midnight" by Diana Palmer requested from me that had been on my shelf since the first day I joined - June 30, 2006.  I still have 20 books left from that day, one of which is a Grisham that I expect to sit there for another two years :)

Which book has been sitting on your shelf the longest?

This is my oldest book!  I have a few others from october and december.  I was sprised that this was the oldest.  I thought it would go back to 2006.

Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood from 8/13/2006.

I don't suspect this will ever be requested since everyone seems to have this book.

I have a lot of books posted on 8/14/2006.  Quite a few of these are Jayne Ann Krentz.

I should just donate these books to Goodwill.

"I should just donate these books to Goodwill."

See, I think that from time to time, too, but then I think "what if I am the *very next one* to go in the FIFO system?  So, I always talk myself into keeping them on my shelf.  I guess if I run out of storage space at home I'll have to reconsider keeping them, but for now I'm good.  And really, the Grisham one (Painted House) is like an experiment to me now - I really want to know how long it will take to move :)

Well I'm confused. I went to my bookshelf to look for the oldest book on there and it shows my oldest as being posted 4/23/08! I know that isn't right. It shows several posted on that day and several more posted on 4/28/08.

Ohhhh!!! I know what happened. LOL  I must have mixed a stupid pill in with my vitamins. I forgot that I put my books on hold while I was on vacation! I would guess my oldest book at this point would be Grisham's The Testament. It's been on there since early 2007 or late 2006.

i recently donated a bag of books to the local Friends of the Library containing books that had been to the UBS at least three times and had over 100 copies posted here, which was most of my earliest books (John Grisham, etc), but i only joined this year.

Mine is KILLJOY by Julie Garwood (6/23/07) and that is only because I get too annoyed having all my PBS bookshelf books hanging around and I eventually donate them . . . . . somewhere or another.

I just started PBS in Aug '07 and I think I have a couple posted from then-maybe Sept.  I'm like Kelly though and if they aren't moving-I donate them or trade them into the UBS.  I'd probably keep them longer if I didn't have a move coming up-but I just don't want to have to move a bunch of books I've already read.

I've posted a few books I have read yet to move up on the fifo line.  I got them super cheap at the recycling center and they all had over 100 copies in the system.  I figure I'll make them my in transit reads for when my shelf comes off hold for good in Aug/Sept but maybe they'll work there way up the line a bit in the meantime.
