This is a really well written, fast moving and full of action cop story that I gave up on about a third of the way into the book. The cops are portrayed as basically venal, amoral, really, REALLY excitable, naturally lazy and not too bright. The author, Leuci, was a snitch himself which might have something to do with his seriously flawed view of his cohorts. (Poor Leuci. The Knapp Commission gave him three coices: Eat your gun; be our rat; go to jail. Tsk, Tsk.)
In my much younger days I used to shoot with cops from Pennsylvania to Long Island NY. Most cops are terrible shots. Understandable. The odds are they will never have to draw in defense of themselves or a civilian. And even longer odds that they will be involved in a firefight. Other than that, these are far better than average human beings and much maligned by "Liberals" for no good reason. Leuci is presented to us as some kind of hero. The Cops as a bunch of bumbling knuckle draggers. Anyone who believes this should try living in France.
