Having enjoyed Henning Mankell, Ragnar Jonasson, and Jo Nesbo this was a complete and utter disappointment.
If you are interested in nothing but boring police procedures complete with bad coffee and morning briefings than this is for you.
Story and characters are all over the board at the beginning, new transfer to the area in now the lead in a murder investigation, her second in command has a drinking problem and the head of the department is more political and how the department looks rather than for his officers.
Ruth is constantly wanting a "ciggie" and Nick has to have a drink before doing anything. Great pair.
Story is so bogged down in details you can (and should) skip 100 pages and still find the same thing happening.
Towards the end I truly didn't care who did it or why! As for a thriller? Nope-more of a snooze!
Don't waste your reading time or dollars on this book.

This was a very good start to a series. The author is a good writer and I love ð the complex-flawed characters of Ruth and Nick. The premise of the murders was interesting and I didnât guess the murderer. The only criticism is that there were too many twists in the end which seemed to make the book drag a bit. I will move on to the 2nd book as I want to see what happens next.
