Hi there, I make my own soap and it isn't too hard as long as you follow the basic rules of safety: googles, gloves and cover up your skin! I use this yahoo group for help: southersoapers And my favorite book, which is awesome at helping one get over fears of 1st time soapmaking is "Smart Soapmaking" by Anne Watson. her book carries basic soap recipes where you can get your oils from the grocery store. Spend a bit researching and you'll be amazed at what you can find... just double check the recipe with www.soapcalc.com to be sure it is formulated correctly. As for molds... a shoebox, wooden box, Pringles can, PVC pipe cut to around 12", simple drawer containers with no edges make excellent molds! Your imagination comes in handy here. :) Good luck, Michelle |

Hi there I also make our own soap but prefer the hot process method rather than the cold. I don't have the patience to wait the 8 weeks for it to cure. I have a few recipes that I would share with you if you would like. You can PM me. Like was already said, make sure you cover up good when using the Lye. Also eye goggles and a resperator as the stuff will about choke ya. There is a ton of info on the web, you can do a search on making homemade soap and it will keep you busy for hours researching it. If you have any questions, i would be happy to help you, just drop me a note. |
