As the title implies, Social Studies Activities Using the World Wide Web engages your grade 4-6+ students in using the Internet to learn about the Rainforests, Lighthouses, the Seven Continents, and three more topics. Complete details include: ? Six WWW Activities -- Each topic is addressed with a set of three lessons: a whole class activity, a small group activity, and an individual activity. Rainforests- students locate the rainforests found in different geographic regions, study specific rainforests, and then address the issue of rainforest destruction and how to prevent it. National Parks- students will map tours of parks in a geographic region of North America and then report on the history of and attractions found in specific parks. Countries of the World-students choose a country and take an in-depth look the country of the world in terms of five themes of geography. Golf Is My Game-students will read biographies and note traits of successful golfers. They will use their map skills and the Internet to explore PGA golf courses and use player statistics for math computations Lighthouses-students learn about lighthouses of long ago, investigate lighthouses currently in use, and do individual reports on specific lighthouses. The Seven Continents-students learn to recognize the seven continents as regions, create an Internet scavenger hunt, and write a continent alphabet including a location for each letter. Lessons include: Complete teacher directions including URLs of related sites, simplified student directions that can be displayed at the computer, note takers and templates as needed.
