This is the opposite of Cinderella and the Prince. In this case, I thought Cinderella (Beth) was one of the wicked step-sisters. She was a rich snob who had a trust fund to burn, a high powered career as a lawyer, a partnership in the firm and she was cold and heartless. Zach was also a lawyer but in a small town where he took cases that meant something with his payment as "favors", jams & jellies, etc. He had very little money but tons of friends and a happy family. He met Beth in another book (Somebody's Baby)and needs her high-profile help on a case of murder. He doesn't take murder cases (he mostly does divorces, estates, etc.). He ends up staying with her in the city until the case is finished. He's the "nice" guy (beta male) and won't speak up about falling in love with her. It is so frustrating that I just wanted to scream at both of them. She's so cruel at times and he's so meek that it was pathetic. Give me an alpha male ANYTIME!
