When I was in 5th grade (I think) my Mom checked a book out from the library that I read. It would have been either 1984 or 85, and it was a novel from the adult section (precocious reader!) I have a vague recollection of the cover having a large eye on it.
There was a little girl being treated by a social worker/psychiatrist because every time her parents tried to talk to her, she responded by screaming. The woman trying to help her was tape-recording the sessions and accidently hit slow playback one day. She was then able to understand what the child was saying. Evidently the girl was speaking so fast that she appeared to be screaming. The little girl claimed that aliens were using her to moniter her surroundings, I think in order to attack. Somehow the adults were able to get rid of the alien grip on the child's mind.
I've never seen this book again, I liked it at the time, even though the cover creeped me out.
I have no clue whatsoever as to who wrote it or what the title was.

Thanks!

I don't have a clue about the book, but you might try posting the question at Whats that book.  They seem to have good success.

Doesn't ring a bell with me, but I"ve had crazy success over at www.abebooks.com  They have a section called Booksleuth and the forums are helpful and they're great at finding those obscure books we all can't remember. You've got a lot of info, it may be easy for someone over there to help you out.

When reading your post it started sounding familiar.  But I get the feeling I didn't read it, but "saw" it; like it was a movie or maybe on Twilight Zone or something like that; but then again it could just be another "senior moment". :)  let us know if you find out what it is!

Still haven't been able to figure this out.  I'm tempted to just go to the library my Mom borrowed it from (way back when) and search the shelves.  It's not a big library, but it's over 2 hours away from me, now.

*sigh*  some day...
