When I was in 5th grade (I think) my Mom checked a book out from the library that I read. It would have been either 1984 or 85, and it was a novel from the adult section (precocious reader!) I have a vague recollection of the cover having a large eye on it.
There was a little girl being treated by a social worker/psychiatrist because every time her parents tried to talk to her, she responded by screaming. The woman trying to help her was tape-recording the sessions and accidently hit slow playback one day. She was then able to understand what the child was saying. Evidently the girl was speaking so fast that she appeared to be screaming. The little girl claimed that aliens were using her to moniter her surroundings, I think in order to attack. Somehow the adults were able to get rid of the alien grip on the child's mind.
I've never seen this book again, I liked it at the time, even though the cover creeped me out.
I have no clue whatsoever as to who wrote it or what the title was.
Thanks!
