OK, folks, I'm a relative newbie, but I have tried HARD to figure this out alone and I just can't!

There's a book I had searched for by title in both Posted Books and All Books several times since I joined and nothing ever came up. I obtained the ISBN from elsewhere and last night I did a search in Posted Books. At first it came up with nothing -- then, very oddly, after a few seconds the page just sort of self-refreshed and there was the book! I was excited and without thinking it through too well, I hit the WISH button.

I almost immediately thought Yikes, I don't have any credits (though I am daily expecting two to come in), so I also hit the REMINDER button. I've figured out now that this took the book OFF my wishlist -- I didn't realize it would, so that threw me, but in a minute or two, when I figured that out, I took it off REMINDER and put it back on WISH. It did and does show only one wisher, and I figured that if I didn't get the needed credit in in time I would buy a credit -- I really want the book.

Here's the part I don't understand. I haven't received anything from PBS about this -- no offer, no nothing. The book still shows up in Posted books by ISBN, but with no REQUEST button. (I think one reason it won't show up in a Title search is that there is a symbol in the title that may have made the system start spewing hieroglyphics!) In fact, as of about 5 minutes ago (3:15 pm, Oct. 11) it showed up in an Advanced search of Posted books posted in the last 24 hours.

What's going on? Did I miss my chance by bumbling around putting it on Wish then Reminder then Wish again? I'm thinking MAYBE someone else wish-listed it during the short time I had it on my Reminder list ...?

Hmm. What's the ISBN/book and I'll see what it tells me.

I suppose it is possible that it was posted while you had it on your RL and was requested quickly. 

If you search by ISBN the book comes up, even if it isn't posted.

Searching WL by ISBN brings up the book even if it isn't WL'd.

If searching by ISBN it seems to be a search all books no matter what your setting is, probably because there should only be one result when using an ISBN.

I pm-ed you the ISBN, Mary. And yes, what you say may have happened is the only answer I can come up with, too.

Kayote, I certainly did NOT know that about an ISBN search -- that it will search ALL books even if you've selected a posted book search! That's kind of strange ...! And it certainly puts this in an entirely new light!!

It's a WL book in paperback and hardback.  The Post This Book button means it's not available. When I put in the ISBN I got the listing and it showed 1 person on WL.  When I searched by title it only came up under All Books and WL books.  There's a paperback version that's also WL. 

ETA: correction: the paperback didn't come up under WL books but it's not posted either. 

Thank you both bunches!  I just was totally unaware that an ISBN search is automatically all-inclusive ( -- does that seem a little strange to anyone else?) Anyhow, that explains my problem!
