"The Bellarosa Connection"
One more time: another Jewish story beginning with an escape from the holocaust. While this one is the underground of Billy Rose, the author feels a need to remind the reader time and again of its details. I found the micro flashbacks to be tedious and the story line to be protracted, but at least it is refreshing to read Bellow's prose in a day and age when proper use of the language is immaterial.

"A Theft"
Here is a story about gentiles. No way! Way! It takes a while to get around to the theft; actually there are two depending upon your own concept of what constitutes theft. Our heroine is another screwed-up affluent who cannot retain a meaningful relationship and so end up with a slug for a spouse. Through all of this she treasures, from an early affair, a ring received that has become the token to her stability; hence the theft, or thefts, as the case may be.

"Something To Remember Me By"
Here's a quirky anecdote about a teen-ager about to get his first taste of sex. It isn't what he expected! It isn't even what you will expect. Short, but entertaining.
