Deborah was Israel first prophetess and judge, a woman whose calling shattered cultural norms and whose leadership exalted her nation. Wooed by the love of her husband-to-be, and by the voice of Yahweh himself, Deborah leaves forever the security of her father's house. Her faith becomes buffeted and sharpened by pagan culture. Her unusual relationship with Yahweh draws derision from devout and pagan alike. Then, despite wrenching personal sacrifice, she emerges as God's oracle and instrument for reuniting Israel.
This is one of the few books I've found about women of the Bible that I could read and relate to without feeling as if I was being preached at or being made to feel "inferior" in some way, to the men of the Bible. The hard fought triumph of the the heroine of the book will definitely speak to your heart. Highly recommended.
