Book was a good read, with new slant on most science fiction. If you like Kristine Kathryn Rusch or Linnea Sinclair, you will probably like this. Characters have gotten off to a good start on development. I look forward to the sequel.

Okay, so I have to admit I really only picked this up since her majesty, the queen of SFR, Ms Linnea Sinclair recommended it on goodreads.
Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised by how good this was. Definitely a strong, well written story that sucks you in and doesn't let go until the very last pages.
However, I did have a few qualms: One, we only get the heroines point of view. As a romance reader, I'm used to, and love getting, both the Hero's and the heroines point of view, so while for the most part, just having the h's perspective worked in this particular story, there were a number of times I wish we'd know what the main male character was thinking. For me at least, not knowing what was going on inside his head, detracted a bit from the overall story (and makes it hard for me to actually call him the Hero). And I don't know If I can explain this very well, but it made the story seem a little less emotional...It felt like we'd skip from one section of the book to another, but in the process we'd miss something, something that made it impossible for us to get the big picture, and I couldnt help but feel a tad disappointed by that. Does that make sense? Also getting the POV for a few of the secondary characters, again IMO, would have enhanced the overall story as well.
Additionally...Ms Sinclair being an expert in weaving Sci-fi and romance together, I expected quite a bit more Romance in Song Of Scarabaeus (and does anyone actually know how to pronounce that?) than what was offered. We really only started into the romance aspect at the very end of the book...and then we're hit with a cliffhanger ending. A totally unexpected cliffhanger ending.
As a debut (I believe this is the author's first book), this book was an amazing read and despite my own issues with it, I am eagerly awaiting its sequel (which will hopefully come out soon)!

Wonderful! It pulled me right in. The characters are complex and the worldbuilding/SF aspects are unique.
This book will appeal to both SF and Romance fans--there's not that much romance in this one, but there is more in the sequel. If you liked Grimspace but wanted it a little lighter, this book is it.
Personally, I didn't mind not getting the hero's POV. It lends him more mystery. In this way the book is written like a science fiction novel.

Half Talasi, Edie was separated and lived apart from the rest. Edie was "rescued" when she was 10. Trained in biotechnology since childhood, she is responsible for seeding worlds that are inhabitable to humans, to make them livable. The organization whose goal is the colonize everywhere they can, is the Crib. The Crib also controls the resources to keep most of those terraformed worlds habitable and charge massive fees to do so. Edie realizes she is not happy working for them.
This started out well with Edie's kidnapping. But then, it lost steam for me. This was so easy to put down and pick up. I wasn't engaged. I'm glad I read it, but it was an uneven read for me.
