Has anyone read this series? A friend sent me the first one as a gift and I'm totally hooked. There will be 8 books in the series and 4 are currently published with a new one about every 3 months. After reading the first one, I searched the local bookstores, but found only #4. So I'm violating one of my own rules by reading them out of sequence. (I've ordered the middle two, but it will take a few days.) It's about 8 brothers who live in a world where magic is common. They are hero-warrior types as well, but each has a distinct skill set and physical look. They've been sent to live in exile on an island because of a prophesy. Each book is about one of the brothers meeting his destined mate. The women are strong and feisty, and judging by book 1 & 4, the strong central storyline continues. Here's some infor from the author's site. The Sword (Book 1) The first novel of the Sons of Destiny...a romantic tale of magic, superstition, and a love that transcends dimensions.

I enjoy books that have common characters and continuing story line, but this is especially strong. (Note I haven't read #2 and #3 yet. And in one of those the brother is in another land, so not sure how much storyline there is about the home group.) But in #4, I'd say 40% of the book was about the new couple's relationship and 60% continued with the central story line. The other characters don't fade to mere mentions. They have significant roles. In fact the ending focused mostly on the heroine from book #1. I liked the key couple in Book 4, but not nearly as much as some of the characters, so it was nice to have a well-rounded plot that continued with all the characters. |

I love this series. I'm also waiting rather impatiently for Rydan's book. I think the girl that gets stuck with him will have to be very strong-willed :p One of the best parts of this series is that it doesn't leave characters from previous books by the way-side. Of course, that is one of the things that makes waiting for the next book so hard. I have the rest of the series already on my WL (Just as a reminder to be patient, even though I know I'll probably break down and buy them then instant they're released. LOL) |

Books 2 and 3 arrived, and I’ve read them since returning from vacation. They held up well, and I'd continue to recommend this series. But definitely try to read them in order. (I had 1 & 4 and couldn't wait for 2 & 3 to arrive.) There's a very strong storyline that continues throughout the series. It’s a whimsical, creative storyworld based more on a magical/agricultural type of society. There are some connections to contemporary earth as that's considered another universe/dimension and one character is magically plucked from there. I love the way the author incorporates magical versions of common technology like touch lighting, horseless carriages, and cell phones. The characters are likeable and fun. If you like this type of story, I’d definitely recommend the Sons of Destiny series. Last Edited on: 4/10/08 2:12 PM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

The 5th book, The Cat, is now out in trade paperback. Amara of the Shifterai has good reason to be wary of mages, when mages were responsible for chasing her and her sister out of their homeland. Being on the run for so long hasn’t put her in a trusting mood, yet there is something about Trevan of Nightfall—mage or not—that Amara finds difficult to resist. But can he be trusted with her most fiercely guarded secret? Courting such a pretty yet prickly outlander won’t be easy, but Trevan is determined to try. She may be fierce, proud, and from a different culture, but he is the Cat, and none but the most fascinating and challenging of women could satisfy him. Of course, it would help if she stood still long enough for him to court her properly… I read it yesterday. It was entertaining - not my favorite in the series, but good enough. Rydan's story comes out in September and that's the one I really want to read. |

Just FYI, the series is slowly going to mass market paperback at $7.99 each for books 1-3. Book 1 is also available in a bargain price of $4.99 on Amazon.com. I agree that to be fully appreciated the series needs to be read in order. I just hope that the author can keep up, I also am anxiously awaiting the next in the series. |

The 7th book came out in December and I just finished it. Anyone else read it? It's the story of Koranen & Danau.
The Seventh Son shall he decree: This one wasn't my favorite, but I continue to like the series.
