This book was pretty good, the first I have read by this author. It is the story of twins, separated by birth by a Nanny who will do anything to please the couple she works for. The twins go on to lead very parallel lives, a bit unbelieveable at times how alike they are.

Archer provides a fine read with a keen sense of the goog and bad in people and the importance of kinship...[He]masterfully creates a great villain in Elliot, who jumps off the pages in all of his vengeful and shady glamour."

No more, no less contrived than any Archer - but he is a master storyteller -- worth reading if you like page-turners.

This author is a master storyteller, weaving decades of the characters' lives and paying very careful attention to detail. This is a story about twins separated at birth, and their lives and loves. Their lives are very similar and parallel, and there is a real build up to the time when they eventually learn the truth. But I have to say, I was disappointed in how rushed the ending felt. Given the length of the book, the resolution was as un-detailed as he could have possibly made it. Perhaps of the last chapter had less detail about politics and more detail about personal life, it would have been better.

In a hushed maternity ward, and infant dies, while twin brothers thrive. By morning, one mother is told that her only child is doing fine, while another learns one of her twins has died.
Twins seperated at birth, Nathaniel Cartwright and Fletcher Davenport will be raised in different worlds, and both will thrive among the best and brightest of their generation. In an era of violent change, free love and blind ambition, Nat goes off to fight a war, while Fletcher enters the political arena. With each choice they make-in love and career, through tragedy and triumph-their lives mirror one another... until a high profile murder case brings them together. Until a high-stakes political battle turns them into rivals. Until a decades-old secret is suddenly exposed...and two powerful men must confront the truth and its final consequence.
A good read, not one of my favorites but mildly entertaining.

Jeffrey Archer is quickly becoming my new favorite author. I loved this book, I hated to see it end, I had made friends throughout those 500+ pages. A masterful storyteller who can make the most mundane suspenseful.

Heck of a fun listen. Kept the car running a couple of times just to listen to a little more (with gasoline at $4.19).

This is the first time I've ready any book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never once got bored and had a hard time putting it down as I came closer and closer to the end and was sorry when there were no more pages to read. I liked the characters and the way he switched from one to the other.

Another riveting book from this master storyteller. Kept me totally interested throughout and, of course, he waited until the very end to reveal the outcome. Some memorable characters including the guy everyone loves to hate.
