Having enjoyed Murphy's Cat Detective mysteries I went looking for more of her books and came up with this one. It's a gem, fitted into children's books because there is no genre for books that are welcomed by both adults and children. Soonie was sixteen, beautiful, and now all alone in the world except for an ole wagon, a decrepit mare and a hound dog. So she paints her wagon and sets out to find her fortune. Along the way she meets a king who has outlawed song, another who has outlawed dancing, a third who has outlawed telling stories, and the dragon who has caused it all. Resourceful Soonie decides to set things right and along the way builds herself a worthwhile life.
