As Sophie begins her new life with an American family who is devestated by the recent loss of thier mother/wife she finds they need more than a housekeeper. She becomes more important in their lives than she ever expected - especially since she still struggles with english - and soon she discovers they mean much more to her than she had planned for as well.

I thought this book was lovely. Lori Wick's women are often very vulnerable, but also very loving, loyal, and self-sufficient. In this story, an immigrant struggles to survive in America and manages to do it without compromising her beliefs. The story was very believable to me. It is so nice to read a love story where the heroine doesn't do fall into bed with someone who isn't her husband and then spend the rest of the book justifying it. If you have been in tough places in your life and managed to persevere with God's help, you will identify with the character. The book was also very funny in places. I strongly disagree with the reviewer who found the book to be melodramatic.

This is my all time favorite Christian fiction book! I have bought and given away numerous copies. I've also read this three times, and I never re-read books. When I started a ladies book club at church, this was our first book of the month. When you read how Sophie takes everything, absolutely everything to God ~ well, it made me want to be Sophie:)

Alex is a recent widower with three children. Sophie, a recent immigrant from Chechoslovakia, comes as a housekeeper to keep up with the house and help with the children. Sophie's different way of looking at things ministers to all of them until they come to see her has a gift from God, sent to them in their grief.

And then Alex finally notices that Sophie, the quiet and wise housekeeper, is also a beautiful woman. And he begins to realize that she has found a place, both in the family and in his heart.

This is one of those rare novels where a character lives her Christianity in a way that inspires me. Sophie is anything but preachy, and you just can't help loving her. It's just a beautiful story of a woman falling in love with both a man and his children, and a man working through his grief and finding love again.

While I love all of Lori Wick's books, this one is my hands-down favorite. The story is thought-provoking, poignant, and romantic. I really appreciated getting the perspective of an immigrant to America who is very educated and knows many languages--the only language not fluent, though, is English. Great story!

Beautiful and romantic, conveying strong love and hope. I read this book years ago but the story is still fresh in my mind. An excellent, enjoyable read...plus helpful in understanding the dynamics of a grieving family and how one person can make such a difference in their lives. I give this book a five star rating and highly recommend it.

This was truly a different romance book. Tender and sweet with real-life situations even if the outcome was fairy-tailish.
Great book.

Lori Wick is one of the best writers of clean and wonderfully captivating stories... I could hardly put this down. Sophie a young woman from Czechoslavia immigrates to the US and begins trying to find her roots mean while a young mother is killed in an accident and taken away from her husband and three growing children... see how these two lives become intertwined.

I wanted to read Sophie's Heart after someone told me it was a favorite of theirs, and I wasn't disappointed - I loved it! It is a wonderful story and is wonderfully told. I tend to pick books apart if they're not well written, but didn't find myself doing that with this one. The writing is detailed enough to make you feel you are really experiencing the story, without seeming overly drawn out. When I finished it, I loaned it to my mom, who is an avid reader, and she said she could hardly put it down. I think this one is a keeper for me, and I'm already looking forward to reading it again sometime.

I have to say upfront that I read it several years ago, and I must have been 13 or 14 years of age at the time. But even in my youth, or maybe because of it, I found this book boring, drawn out and terribly predictable. Some may discredit my opinion since I haven't read the book recently, and that's fine. I'm sure if I were to muddle through it again, my opinion would not change for the positive.

A woman immigrates to the US, falls for her boss, and they get married. And of course his children who loved her as a babysitter don't seem to like her as much now that she's their new mother. Oh the twists and turns! But alas, it all works out in the end, since after all, this is a Christian romance novel and since the main characters are dedicated Christians, they do, of course live happily ever after. But if all you're looking for is Christian romance to make your heart-a-flutter in a purely God-fearing way, then you will most likely love this book. Cheers!
