Mary Grace Thompson is turning 13, loves horses, and is about fed up with her friend Kay Linda who is only interested in boys. Christina Thompson is the mother who disappeared when she was 10 and gives little thought about the daughter left behind. Frank Thompson raises Mary all on his own and suddenly has to come to grips the fragility of life when Mary is diagnosed with an incurable kidney disease.
