This is a unique book with the story being told by an aging male sperm whale. Man is a mystery to ocean going species. Some men try to help and others try to kill, with no apparent reason for either. We know there is communication among marine species. The book extrapolates from that point. A very good read.

SOUNDING takes us into the mind and emotions of the magnificant sperm whale, an aging bull roaming the waters of the Atlantic. Troubled and separated from his herd, the whale wats to fulfill his one obsessive desire....to communicate with the hamane race and learn why they can be both vicious hunters and frolicking playmates.

Far away, on a doomed Rusian nuclear submarine, Lt. Peter Rostov, the sonar officer and a classiocal musician, is spending what heh's sure are his last days listening to the beautiful "sounding" of the whale.

In an amazing climax to this unique novel man and whale come together...and a magnificant destiny is fulfilled.

Fascinating take on the possible viewpoint of an intelligent marine creature, the sperm whale--largest-brained creature the world has known.
By the author of the popular thrillers, OVERBOARD, JAWS 2, FIREWIND, and PENTAGON.
