I just learned that used copies of Sharron Bassano's little books (4 to a set) of phonics adapted for ESOL pupils would cost close to $200 ! (Amazon)
I was shocked! Surely there are other ESL and former ESL teachers out there who have found these little books from Alemany Press valuable in teaching sight-sound correspondence to pupils trying to learn English. I know the dispute about the use of phonics in the teaching of reading continues. But it is a very different thing when one is trying to help someone who is a native speaker of English learn to read it from when one is trying to introduce the spoken AND written English to someone whose native language is NOT English!
Even if no one can guide me to some reasonably priced copies of Sounds Easy, I'd be interested to hear from others who used phonics instruction with ESL students.
