This entire series of Judge Deborah Knott by Margaret Maron is an absolutely joy to read.
The characters are well thought out and explained and continued throughout the series.
The locations and situations are wonderful too - even with the 'journalistic license' taken.
One feels you know the places, folks, taste the food, experience the wonderful place that is
North Carolina. I simply just loved it and could not wait to read on and on.

#2 in the Judge Deborah Knott series, in which Ms. Knott actually becomes a judge. Someone kills a local building inspector known as a bit of lech, and Deborah's briefly a suspect as she was at the scene, had the murder weapon in her hand and he'd tried to rape her niece. Then Deborah's brother Herman ends up poisoned with arsenic--not fatally, fortunately--and Deborah is sure the two events are somehow related. I figured this one out very early on, but still enjoyed the book and the quirky characters.
