A nice, meandering tale--the equivalent of a lazy summer afternoon. The tale sheds interesting light on its period--just after the big depression but before WWII--but is an otherwise fluffy tale of vapid and shallow characters with small and meaningless lives. Well written, but I just wasn't sure there was a point or a message---which may have been the point AND the message.
A really good book. I can't believe it sat on my to-be-read shelf for so long.
Alice Adams writes a wonderful piece of literature dealing with sex, manners, and romance of a southern college town during the depression.
We read it for Book Club and had fun discussing. It was an easy read and a fun discussion. It does get more serious about 1/2 way through, so ... stick with it and you'll be surprised!
