I was less than impressed by this book. Many of the stories seemed to end with an attitude of 'and she was evil, so she must have been a vampire or a psychic vampire or something.' I did like the inclusion of one story from the native american era, and the other stories were fairly diverse, but it isn't a book I would re-read.
An odd little book that was not quite what I expected. The author says something to the effect that she was given the assignemtn to come up with Southern folklore concerning vampires, but each story seems more like original fiction involving a 'vampiric' theme- meaning maybe not vampires per se, but someone with a disease like porphyria(sp?) that is treated with medication manufactured from blood. Anyhow, a bit off beat and different. I am not sure the author really carried off the 'assignment' or at least its intent, but still an interesting read.
