From book's introduction: Even the the Spanish-American War lasted only ten weeks and very few lives were lost, it is a significant even for the young United States...Since its founding, the United States aspired to become a great power...And Spain would be the first country challenged by the United States.

I say: An interesting, well researched and referenced history book. Written for older elementary and middle school age, this book will be of interest to all oler readers as well. Lots of good photos contemporary political cartoons and such make up the apropos illustrations. A bibliography and index add to the usefulness of this book.
