Twelve stories by authors who are currently very popular, including Dave Eggers (Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius), Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones's Diary), Zadie Smith (White Teeth), and Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, Fever Pitch, About A Boy). The style and feel of these authors is different from that of the "old masters," which makes these stories feel fresh and accessible.

12 first-person narratives edited by Nick Hornby:
"PMQ" by Robert Harris (Horby's brother-in-law)
The Wonder Spot by Melissa Bank (I can't wait to read her new book of the same name, to see how the story has evolved.)
"Last Requests" by Giles Smith
"Peter Shelley" by Patrick Marber (Like Morvern Callar, this story has a soundtrack that I heard in my head as I readBuzzcocks, of course.)
"The Department of Nothing" by Colin Firth (Yes, Mr. Darcy.)
"I'm the Only One" by Zadie Smith
"NippleJesus" by Nick Hornby (Made me think of the character Claire on HBO's Six Feet Under.)
"After I Was Thrown in the River and Before I Drowned" by Dave Eggers (The dog started out really manic, but mellowed too abruptly.)
"Luckybitch" by Helen Fielding
"The Slave" by Roddy Doyle
"Catholic Guilt (You Know You Love It)" by Irvine Welsh (Homophobic, and Welsh slips in & out of the slang he used so consistently in Trainspotting.
"Walking into the Wind" by John O'Farrell
