My youngest son has Asperger's Syndrome, which is in the Autism Spectrum. I am looking for children's books written for AS children. I have seen books written about children with Autism and AS which seem to be oriented towards others, explaining why AS/Autistic children react the way they do in certain circumstances. I'm looking for books to read with my son, not others. Thank you all for your comments. I appreciate your help!! Imelda Last Edited on: 4/7/08 8:35 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

You are definately right, I have yet to see a single book written for someone with Autism, while there is an ample selection of books for children with classmates or sibilings with the disorder. This site has a list of ones that (while not written directly for ASD children) seem to be good reads with Austic children: http://www.beagooddad.com/237/good-books-for-children-with-autism/ There is a book comming out (I believe it's still in the works but it could be out already) called The Little Composer by Amelia Bennett which looks like it may be a good one. Really though, this is an area which has not been tapped into much. I will keep my eyes peeled while I am in the curriculum lab at the school and let you know if I find anything. Sorry I couldn't help that much. Last Edited on: 4/4/08 10:16 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I have not seen many books specifically for Autistic children. Which is unfortunate being that Autism is rather common. I know that there is a new book titled, " Since Were Friends: An Autism Picture Book" by Celeste Shally and David Harrington. The below desciption was posted on the Barnes and Noble website regarding this book. I am going to pick up a copy it sounds like a wonderful book about an Autistic child. Since We're Friends is the moving and inspirational story of an autistic child and the boy who makes a difference in his life -- by offering compassion, understanding, empathy, and, ultimately, the greatest gift of all: friendship.

The following link will take you to Barnes and Noble. On this page there are many books listed related to Autism. I hope you can find one to read with your son.
