Hi!

I have an incomplete collection of the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, and I want my set to match.  The only one that I'm missing is The Castle of Llyr, with the cover pictured here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:TheCastleofLlyr.jpg

Because that cover is long out of print, I've been having nothing but trouble trying to find it, and I thought paperbackswap might be a good place to look.  Is there a way for me to try to get a specific cover?  The only thing I can think is to put it in my conditions and then not request any different books while I'm still looking.

Is it even a good idea to look here, do you think?  I would get it from whatever avenue I could, and this is one of the few places I haven't tried.

Thanks!

Edited to add: Thanks to everybody's tips I think I may have found it!  Thank you so much!

The only way you can do this is to put it in your conditions.  Here's what I'd do.  Put that book on your wishlist but DON"T set that particular book to autorequest.  When that book comes available to you, you'll get an email asking if you want it.  Once you get that email, add the cover info to your requestor conditions and make sure you turn them on.  Then, request the book.  If the person does not have that cover, they can deny the request.  Then, make sure you turn your conditions off...and wait to be offered the book again.

The other thing you could do if that's too big a pain is to add this to your conditions and keep them on all the time:

"For book XYZ ONLY...I'd like this cover...blah blah blah"  If you do this, though, just know that some people won't bother to read your conditions and will deny your request for any book because you have conditions.

That sounds like a great way to do it, thanks!  I'm not getting my hopes up, but I've been looking for this book for about a decade so I want to try whenever I can : )

You might even want to try the Book Bazaar forum and see if anyone there maybe happens to have it available?

I've been very lucky here adding to my collection. I too am looking for specific covers. But more times then not the books I've needed have had different ISBN so I knew that was the only cover.

Like Robin said, one way would be to post in the Book Bazaar asking if someone has this specific cover.

Another way to get around it is to PM and ask if it is the correct cover. I've gone as far as to search shelves (Do so by looking at shelves of those who have reviewed the book)  and PM that person prior to ordering asking if the cover was the one I was looking for. Lots of work, but it could work. You could also order the book and then PM asking about the cover. Let them know you'll cancel on your end if it's not the correct cover so they don't lose their place in the FIFO line. Again more work, but you might get lucky.

Why not add a link to that picture to your RC's. It could say:

For The Castle of Llyr by Lloyd Alexander only: I am looking for this particular cover. [Insert link]

If this request is for another book, please ignore this condition. :)

Thanks for all the tips : ) It has been tricky because sadly this is a case of them recycling the ISBNs for later editions instead of creating new ones.

As soon as I clear out my queue of books I'll be trying out some of these suggestions.  Thanks so much!
