In this 8th outing of Tess Monaghan, she is hired to find a mans wife and three children. Mark Rubin tells Tess that he has a perfect marriage. Tess doubts this in a perfect marriage, why would a wife flee?
Mark has already been to the police, who blew him off because it is obvious that Natalie left by choice. Mark is a problem; he rigid and controlling. At first Tess looks upon Mark as the reason Natalie left. As she gets to know him, Tess realizes there are reasons for Mark doing the things he did in relation to Natalie. However, she learns quickly that Mark is not being totally truthful with her. Why?
Tess turns her attention to the beautiful Natalie 12 years younger than her rich, charming and successful husband. The more Tess digs, the stranger the story becomes. It soon becomes clear that Natalie didnt just decide one day to leave.
Isaac Rubin, the eldest child, is resourceful and clever. He wants to get back to his father and is constantly looking for ways to let his father know where he is.
Crow, Tess significant other, is not in this book; hes with his parents his mother is having chemotherapy for breast cancer.
This is a very satisfying mystery. All of the characters are well-developed and theres a steady stream of action. Tess is also using her network of female investigators to good advantage. This Internet connection adds an interesting twist to Lippmans book.
