Spin Off on the Right Book Wrong ISBN post. How many of you do check the ISBN or even if the book was Hardback or Paperback? I don't check the ISBN, but might notice if the book I ordered were hardback vs paperback.

I alway check the ISBN. I picked up a hardcover book at a used book store. After I read it and went to post it on here, something didn't seem right about it. There's usually a price on the front flap and I didn't see one. The dust jacket had a ISBN, but the copywrite page had a different ISBN. The first thing I thought was that it was a book club edition, but didn't see anything on it that stated that it was from a book club. I just went ahead and donated it to the thrift store.

I learned to check the ISBN w-a-a-a-y back when I first was learning to do edits.  I couldn't find any info on a particular audiobook and it looked interesting, so I ordered it.  The one I received was abridged, not the unabridged that I had ordered.  Sure enough, a different ISBN.  The posting member was VERY nice, and I think, embarrassed to realize she'd made the mistake- I got my credits back, and didn't feel like I should 'profit' from her mistake, so I donated it to the FoL.  That experience got me in the habit of checking ISBNs.

I post books by ISBN.

I do not check it when I receive books as i dont care and it won't mess up my post of the book to my bookshelf in any case as I post by typing the ISBN.

Well  actually I do check if it's a book, like a travel guide, that has annual or semi-annual editions and I want to make sure the year I got was the year i ordered.

But besides that, i dont care.

Like Sara, I always post by ISBN but never, or almost never anyway, check when I receive a book that it is the same ISBN I ordered.  The only exception, maybe, is if I notice something different than I was expecting such as I thought I ordered an unabridged audiobook and received an abridged one.  This has happened a few times and sometimes it was my mistake, sometimes the sender made the mistake.  If it is a bound book, I never check.  I never repost from my bookshelf; I always type in the ISBN of the book in hand when posting, so it's never been a problem.

I post by ISBN too and rarely check to see if ones I receive match......as long as it matches HC or PB, I'm happy with what I get most of the time.

I don't check ISBN unless I notice the book is not what I expected. I do post my books by ISBN if I can find one. Some older books don't seem to have one and I have a lot of older books so sometimes have to type everything in to post them.
