OK, I am one of those overeducated, cultural elitist types who snicker whenever someone (my husband) mentions NASCAR racing ... But after reading this book it all seems much more interesting like maybe I want to check it out. And the first time I made a Jeff Gordon reference that was accurate and timely ... my husband almost fell off his chair. The book is enjoyable for its characters and warmth, and the story carries you to the finish quite nicely. And you don't have to be a redneck to get it either.

Sharon McCrum, who usually writes about characters from the North Carolina mountains, has surprised us with this one! We meet travelers on a memorial bus ride who love NASCAR and want to remember Dale Earnhardt! Her wit and wisdom come riding in, and the book is just fun to read! Entertaining, humorous, and profound!! A quick cozy read which is different!!

I am now a bit of a NASCAR fan. I live in NH, just about 30 mins. from the track in Loudon but I've never been to a race. McCrumb has piqued my curiosity....now I just have to figure out how to get tickets. This was a really fun book, as well as, educational.

Really great read for NASCAR fans.

You really should be a Nascar fan. As usual, Sharyn McCrumb's description of personalities and characters was great. But I am not a Nascar fan and knew nothing of the sport-so all the names and details and history was a little tedious to me. I also thought that this did not really go anywhere (until the very end) a little slow.I will stick to Ms. McCRumb's mysteries.

Dale Earnhart is probably roaring with laughter at the title. I knew nothing about car racing, and found the background interesting and the story line okay.

I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I liked this book. McCrumb's characters are delightful!

started to read it but couldn't get into the whole Dale earnhardt thing. I am not a real NASCAR fan, or any sport for that matter.
