I have to read Stacy Schiff's Cleopatra for a book club discussion. Schiff's writing style is driving me crazy: her sentences are so short. Stop-and-go, stop-and-go. . .let's get a move on! A few years ago, I read Schiff's Vera (about Nabokov's wife), and I don't remember feeling this pain. Is it just that I really don't care about Cleopatra that much? Rose |

I read Cleopatra recently and I didn't remember the short sentences being a problem. But since there's no real new sources and she lived ~2,000 years ago, it reads more like a history book than a biography in my opinion. |
