I've only just recently discovered this German author of the 1950s. He's well worth discovering - listed for juveniles but interesting to all ages. This author really knows his children.

My mother owned this book, and I read it several times as a child. It was a wonderful story! Sadly it got lost somewhere (and it was likely my fault, but I don't remember the circumstances). I have been looking for this book for at least 25 years. To stay in my memory that long, it must be a good one :)
