Excellent book for this way the author John Muir expresses his feelings with wonderful vocabulary. It was rated for children 5-8 years, but is more suitable for 7-9 year olds.

I picked up this book while at Yosemite. John Muir is a major character there. The book describes a day of adventure for John Muir in Alaska. It is a light story and certainly gives insight into Muir's personality and persistence which made him a grand explorer.

Great Dog Story! We just had gotten a hard-headed mixed breed ("Mutt") puppy when I found this. While it is never said whad breed "Stickeen" is, the behavior is described as if Muir had ours, and it brings a smile to my face long after I am finished reading it!
