I am so mad!! I received a book today that i have been waiting for about 8mths to give to my daughter. I got it from my wishlist. I opened the package today and it was the worse book I have received yet on here. The first page was taped together, where it had ripped diagonally. there was water damage on more than half of the pages, some kind of red stain as well, and there were about 20 pages that fell out when I opened it. It arrived with no damage to the packaging. Well I marked it as damaged and sent the mailer a PM. Asking for a credit back. She has the nerve to tell me she knows it was taped together but the other damage is not true, and she would not have sent a book in that condition or anyting that she would want to receive herself, and that it is postable. ??????WTH??? and if I would like to have better condition books then I a need to put "requester conditons" on my account!!!!! And thanks a lot now I am out of credits and postage!!! OMG!!! Well I told her I did not need requester cond as long as people followed the rules... and that she should read them again.... apparently she only glanced at them and should have read them more closely...... at least i got my credit back, but I am still livid..... The book is garbage. ........Oh well I feel better now......lol Last Edited on: 11/29/08 12:13 AM ET - Total times edited: 3 |

I feel your pain. I would never ever post a book that was taped together let alone that damaged. It is sad how people today are without feelings. |

Yake a photograph or two of it and offer to show her the photos. A taped-up book is NOT postable under any stretch of the imagination. Glad you got your credit back.

I have found that by calmly offering to forward pictures in the first e-mail I send tends to forstall a lot of the "I'm sure I didn't really send the book that way" type stuff. Basically you're calling their bluff before they can say anything. (I take the snaps on my phone camera which is easy to e-mail from.) I've never yet had someone actually decide they want to see the pictures! Also, I have on a one occasion taken pictures of a book I sent- this is when there was someone who had pretty picky RCs, which my book clearly met so I decided to take a chance and send it_- but I covered my but by taking some photos first! I swear people just can't accept responsobility for their mistakes. It does make you crazy but at least you got your credit back. Apparently an apology is beyond most people! Sara |

That sucks. Make sure to ask to be put back to #1 in line for the book so you don't have to wait to long to get a good copy for your daughter. |

How do you ask to be put back to #1 in line on WL? Just curious...didn't know that was an option. Sorry, Kim....why oh why do people send books they KNOW are unpostable (torn cover...at least more than 1/2" is just not allowed..period)???? I like the idea of taking photos of the books I send. It wouldn't be hard to do and I'd only need to keep them on the camera until the book is received in without a problem. I actually haven't had any issues (knocking on wood) with folks claiming a postable book I sent wasn't postable...but seems others have. I have sent photos to a sender who sent me an unpostable book (cover half off (basically only covered the back and half of the spine and pages coming loose) and he still refused to return the credit. Go figure...he claimed it was "readable". Apparently, he's making up his own PBS rules..lol. Anyhow, know it can be aggravating so just commiserating with you. Glad you got your credit back! Lauren |

Lauren, just go to the bottom of this page and click on "contact us" and send the PBS team a note. Tell them about the condition of the book you received and ask to be put back on the WL as #1 because the book you got was not postable at all. |

Thanks Sarah! I figured that was it but wanted to be sure. Good to know. :) Lauren |

I just went through a similar experience, and after several PM I did get a credit back. This member did not agree with me that the book was unpostable, as they indicated that was the condition they received it in. 'm new to the site so I hope that this experience is not common. I take pride in the condition of the books I have posted, and also feel it is a lack of respect for other members to post book in poor condition. Personally I don't find it enjoyable to read a book that is in such poor conditions that it is either falling apart, extremely discolored, torn or has broken bindings. Does anyone know if there is a way to block members that you don't want to even request or receive books from? I do not even wish to deal with this member any longer, however I don't know how to indicate that when I request a book. Marilyn

Marilyn - first off welcome! I'm sorry that one of your first trades wasn't good. there is no way to block people you do not want to trade with. You'll just have to keep a note and know not to order any books from them. doesn't help with the FIFO situation unless you look at their shelf to make sure what you want to order isn't on their shelf |

Leslie, Thanks for the information. I'm not going let this one experience dampen my happiness at finding PBS. I'm enjoying reading all of the discussions, and just browsing all the books that are available. I'll give it another try! PBS is a much more enjoyable experience then my local used book store! Take care, Marilyn |
