WOW! WOW! WOW! and I don't give 5 stars often

I just got off Amazon and left my review there, This is an engrossing story from the beginning, at times I held my breath, at times I was on the edge of my seat, and at times I wanted to jump in the book and help Gwen and Sam

I won't go into details so as not to spoil anything for another reader but I think this is very well written and truly a suspense/thriller

Rachel Caine, is also the author of the weather warden series, which I grew tired of right away, and not because the author was flawed, but the stories were not for me.

So I wasn't sure I wanted to venture into another book by the author. Wow was I wrong.
I read this in one day, and stayed up late to finish it. This is a real page turner, as you want to know what is going to happen next.

The MC Gwen, is super paranoid, about the safety of her family, and that sure gets old, and trite, but we are talking about some seriously crazy murderous folks who are looking for her to harm her and her kids. Everyone is suspect, and they should be. I had my suspects right away. I was right.

Guess what there is a book 2. Of course. Cause it isn't over til it is over.

Lots of twist & turns with a good character layout. Gwen has to be on the run with her kids changing locations & identities to escape her serial killer husbands fans & people who think she was an accomplice & want her dead. (

Gina Royal is a housewife with a happy marriage and two children but she is forced to become Gwen Proctor as her husband has a secret life as a serial killer. She finds refuge in a home on Stillhouse Lake but is stalked by those who think she had something to do with her husband's crimes. Now bodies are turning up in the lake and Gwen feels a need to run again. Who can she trust?
This book is intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You can really feel for this mother who is just trying to keep her two children safe. The surprise cliffhanger ending makes me want to delve right into the next book. I would recommend to those who love psychological thrillers.

I finally got around to reading this first in the series. It is tense and creepy. And Whoa-that ending! It doesn't really leave any choice but to read the next.

This first book in the Stillhouse Lake series is adult fiction unlike her other books which are for young adults. I have not yet read any of her books for young adults but I am very happy that I read this one. It is totally creepy and awesome and compelling in its twists and turns of the story. I love the characters. They seem so real--the good ones and the very very bad ones. I must warn you. There are four more books in the series and you will want to devour them also. If you like an action packed original suspense story with a strong woman as the heroine, you might want to give this one a try. I am so very glad that I did.

If you can hang on past the first 100 pages you will be rewarded.
Those were Gwen overkill and in her head way to much!
After that the story comes alive and she quits putting baby at the end of each sentence she speaks to her kids. Ugh!
Lots of sneaky twists and interesting turns. Gwen is a more than a bit paranoid for my liking and should really learn a bit more survival tactics and how to be nice to people.

Liked it a lot but not planning on reading the sequels. I wrote a longer review you can find on the PBS blog.

Gina Royal was happy with her husband, her children, and her middle-class life. But a freak accident turns her world upside down and uncovers the fact that Gina's husband is a serial killer. Gina is accused of being his accomplice. Even though her lawyer clears her name, people still believe she helped her husband torture and kill several young women. She receives threatening emails and letters from people who say they will kill her children, so she takes the kids and goes on the run.

Moving from town to town to keep steps ahead of the people stalking her, she changes her name to Gwen Proctor and settles with her children Lanny and Connor in a quiet neighborhood in Tennessee. But after a few months of peace and quiet, Gwen begins receiving letters from her ex-husband. How did he discover where they live? Then a body of a woman turns up in the lake near Gwen's house. This murder is eerily similar to the murders her husband committed. How long before the locals realize who she is and blame her for another death?

This is the first book in the Stillhouse Lake series. Last week I was ready to give up on psychological thrillers because I read so many that I didn't like. Well, this one hooked me from the first chapter. The first half of the story showed us how Gwen has evolved from a quiet but gullible wife to a woman who will do anything to protect her children. The second half of the story is non-stop action. I couldn't put it down. I was up half of the night finishing the book. And what an ending! It does a great job of setting up the next book in the series. I can't wait to read it. My rating: 5 Stars.
