An exciting story about a fifteen year old "mama's boy" that is forced to quickly mature during the final few months of the Civil War. I read this in my 7th grade english class and enjoyed it immensely. When read, my class did not realize that this story was historical fiction because of the reality in-which Jamie lived. I recommend this book to everyone, especially if you live in Virginia (where this book is set).

This book is for adults, in my opinion, and not for children due to veiled and not-so-veiled references to rape, murder, and digging up dead bodies to look for gold.
