Not one of my favorite Innes mysteries. The premise is a good one, but the book goes on for too long, and by the end I found I didn't much care about the solution, just so long as the book was finally over! It's a problem Innes occasionally seems to have encountered; getting carried away with his own inventiveness, and while I appreciate that, it doesn't always make for a great book.
This is also an appalling edition, with far more simple spelling and grammar mistakes than any other printed book I've ever encountered--about five times as many. Obviously the budget didn't run to a proofreader, and it's a shame, especially in a mystery as literate as any from Michael Innes. The binding also isn't really up to the size of the book, which makes it difficult to keep one's place while reading, and means it'll fall apart long before it's time.
Overall, decent book but terrible edition!
